Meet the Doctors

Rene Amaya, M.D., FAAP

As an infectious disease and wound care specialist I see it as my responsibility to gently relieve the anxiety and concerns that all patients and their parents experience while suffering with a complex illness.  I thoroughly enjoy educating at the bedside or in the office so that all families understand the nature of the illness and the process involved to cure it.  I approach each of my patients with a simple concept, “What would I do for my own children?”.

Dr. Amaya was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from St. Mary’s University with a BS in Biology and a BA in English. He attended medical school at UT Southwestern Medical School at Dallas and graduated in 1995. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona for pediatric residency at Phoenix Children’s Hospital/Maricopa Medical Center. He stayed an additional year after completing residency to serve as Chief Resident. He returned to Texas to complete an additional 3 years of specialty training in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine. He is board certified in both Pediatric Infectious Diseases and General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. After completing this training he founded Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialists of Houston in 2002. He is a member of the Pediatric infectious Disease Society, Infectious Disease Society of America and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

In 2011 he recognized a growing demand for complex wound care management in children. He obtained additional training in wound care and ultimately was certified in wound care treatment.  In light of this expertise, he currently holds a position as Director, Wound Care Services at Health Bridge Children’s Hospital in Houston. He is a member of the Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing and The Association for the Advancement of Wound Care.

He is married and has two children. He is fluent in English and Spanish.

Takehisa Ikeda, M.D., FAAP

Dr. Takehisa Ikeda was born in Kyoto, Japan, and moved to the United States with his parents at the age of two. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and a Master of Science in Preventive Medicine at The Ohio State University. Dr. Ikeda graduated from St. George’s University School of Medicine and subsequently trained as a pediatric resident and served as chief resident at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York. He then completed three years of fellowship training in pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey. He moved to Houston with his wife, daughter and son. Dr. Ikeda is fluent in English and Japanese.

Maria-Isabel Rosas, M.D., FAAP
